The Crown bought the land surrounding the waterway and left it up to two partners in development. However, 1861 saw them sell off their first lots at auction after Robert Kerr Chisholm’s son William established his father’s old farm on what would become called “Kerrville” (after himself). The area was then renamed Merrick Thomas, whose family became wealthy from farming here too!

Located in Halton Region, Chisholm also formed a shipbuilding business. The community shipped large quantities of wheat and lumber via schooners until 1842 when it was closed because no oak trees were left to make ships out of them anymore!
In 1846 the population reached 1 500 people making this area one for those interested in history and agriculture activities such as farming or fishing locally grown produce at your local farmer’s market near you too!!

The town of Oakville in the 1800s had three churches, a grist mill, and a sawmill. There were also tradesmen to make threshing machines or wagons to transport goods like horses that farmers needed at a time.
